Which trees are protected in Tablelands?
Tablelands generally does not require council approval to remove trees on private property — its tree controls don't apply to private land. Other laws (native vegetation, heritage, threatened species) may still apply, so confirm with the council.
Tablelands Regional Council does NOT control tree removal on private residential land. Only council-owned trees are protected under Local Law 1 (Administration). Private land tree removal is regulated solely by Queensland's Vegetation Management Act 1999 (state law covering native vegetation only). The planning scheme does not require council approval for tree removal where no development is proposed. No local law, VPO system, or size thresholds apply to private land.
