Which trees are protected in Moreland?
Trees about 8m tall / 40cm trunk (diameter at 1.2 metres above ground level) or larger are generally protected and need approval.
Clause 2.5 of 2018 General Local Law. Mature tree definition includes trees meeting size thresholds (8m height AND 40cm trunk diameter) OR listed on Council's Significant Tree Register. Tree Protection Zone extends to 12ร trunk diameter (max 15m). Penalty: 20 penalty units. Council renamed to Merri-bek City Council in September 2022.
